Vidhi(Diet regimen)-Part II
While determining
the quantity one should be his own judge. It is advisable to leave
the table just when you are about to feel full. The best way to
judge your own capacity is to assume the stomach to be comprised
of four parts of which two parts are to be filled with solids,
one part with liquids and one part is to be left empty for the
exchange of gases and to enable digestion. Heavy food is to be
had half the quantity. In any case overeating should be avoided.
The atmosphere at mealtime should be pleasant, cheerful, with
proper sitting arrangements. Food should be enjoyed in the company
of well wishers and friends without any disturbance. After offering
prayers one should start dining with full concentration on the
meals. Laughing or talking is best to be avoided since food may
enter the windpipe. Also food gets cold and loses its taste. After
the meals rinse the mouth thoroughly with water. Remove the residual
food particles with the help of toothpick else it may cause tooth
decay, foul breath or other oral disorders.
Some Do's
and Don'ts
-
Avoid
eating too fast or too slow. Food eaten hurriedly does not get
digested properly, so also eating does not give a sense of fulfillment.
On the contrary one tends to eat more.
-
As
far as possible eat freshly prepared food. Reheating and refrigerating
tends to lose the taste and nourishment.
-
Avoid
munching snacks in between meals.
-
Don't
drink too much or too little water since both hamper the digestion.
-
Don't
remain hungry for more than six hours and don't eat for three
hours after you had our meals. Overeating can cause indigestion.
-
Do
eat when you feel hungry i.e don't avoid mealtimes.
-
Don't
eat when the mind is unstable because you may eat less or in
excess.
-
Avoid
heavy tasks immediately after meals since the blood circulation
is diverted towards the site of action rather than towards digestion
of food. It also creates pressure on the heart. After meals
don't sleep immediately. But do take rest for a while before
resuming your work.
