Ayurved can be described as the science which imparts knowledge of life.

The science which describes the span of life and tells about useful and harmful, happy and unhappy life and also gives guidelines for what is beneficial and harmful to life.

The science which describes what is useful and harmful for life and also the pathogenisis , treatment of the diseases

FUNCTIONS OF THREE HUMORS (TRIDOSHA)

VATA

Governs the movements of pitta and kapha
Stimulate the digestive fire for appetite.
Sustains the body originators of every kind of action in the body.
Controls the mind from undesirable objects and directs it towards fruitful activities.
Carries the sensation of sound and touch.
Causative factor for evacuation of urine and faeces.
Directs the senses to their respective objects.

Colouration/Pigmentation.

Heat (Maintaining the body temperature)

Softness of the body
Cheerfulness

KAPHA

Viscidity
Nourishment

FUNCTIONS OF SEVEN TISSUES (DHATU)

RASA

Circulates through various channels and nourishes the body.
Has a soothing effect on the senses.
Creates a feeling of peace and satisfaction in the mind.

RAKTA

Jeevana (life)
Maintains normal activities.
Gives a natural glow to the skin.
Increase vitality.

MANSA

Covers the bone.
Contributes to the strength of the body.

MEDA

Lubrication
Gives strength to the body as well as to the bones.

ASTHI

Supports the body.
Muscular action is possible due to their attachment to the bones.

MAJJA

Contributes to the viscidity and strength of the body.
Fills the cavities of bones

SHUKRA

Responsible for the activity and sense satisfaction.
Cause of bodily vigour and impregnation.
Possesses the virtue of being ejected during sexual intercourse.

FUNCTIONS OF THREE MALA (WASTE PRODUCTS):

MUTRA (URINE)

To eliminate excess of fluid from the body.

PURISH (FAECES)

After the whole process of digestion is over, the fine necessary part is absorbed and assimilated. The undigested part, which is removed from pakvashaya through rectum is known as purih (faeces)

SWEDA (SWEAT)

Keeps hair moist

Roga is synonym for disease. Any pain on the body is refered as Roga

CAUSATIVE FACTORS OF A DISEASE

ASATMENDRIYARTH SAMYOG
AAMA
(Unwholesome conjnction of sense objects. It includes excessive utilization or wrong Utilization of objects of senses like vision, Sound, smell, taste and touch)
Agni is responsible for proper appetite
and digestion of food. Anything in excess
(activity, diet, exercise etc) cause
derangement in jatharagni(appetite). It is
unable to digest the food. Hence
undigested in the stomach and gets
infected by doshas. This is Aama.
This aama gets fermented producing
toxins and thus acts as a poison for
the body.

PRADNYAPARADHA
(Misdeeds performed by an individual as aresult
of wrong decision taken by the mind)

PARINAMA (KALA)
(Any unfavourable changes in weather and time)

CLASSIFICATION OF DISEASE

NIJA AGANTUJA
(Caused solely due to derangement of dosha
dhatu i.e. physiological disturbances
Caused due to external factors injuries, accidents)
SHARIRIK MANASIK
(Physiological disturbance) (Psychological imbalance)

CLASSIFICATION OF DISEASES ACCORDING TO THEIR CURATIVE MEASURES

SUKHASADHYA KRUCHRASADHYA YAPYA ASADHYA
[Those, which get cured very easily.] [Those, which taketime to cure.] [Those, which recure when the treatment is stopped.] [Those which are incurable.]
